What should you know about dengue 2nd time symptoms?

Dengue fever can present with high fever, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, nausea or marked tiredness. Some people develop a rash or easy bruising. Symptoms can overlap with other infections, so symptoms alone cannot confirm dengue or show whether this is a second infection.

The period as fever settles deserves attention. Warning signs can include severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, unusual sleepiness, restlessness, breathing difficulty or inability to drink.

Arrange a GP consultation promptly if dengue is possible, especially if you have had it before, recently travelled to an affected area or have a mosquito-exposure history. A clinician can decide which examination and blood tests are needed.

Rest, drink fluids in small frequent amounts and record temperature, symptoms, urine output and any bleeding. Use only medicines recommended by a clinician; avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless specifically advised because they may increase bleeding risk.

Go to urgent care immediately for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, faintness, cold or clammy skin, confusion, difficulty breathing, very little urine or inability to keep fluids down. Do not wait for fever to return.
