What should you know about deep tear trough lines?

The groove can catch light and create a tired-looking shadow. It may be present even when you are well rested, and it is different from colour-based dark circles alone.

The tear trough is the transition between the lower eyelid and the upper cheek. A naturally deep groove, reduced soft-tissue support, thinner skin, or a change in facial volume can make it more visible. The hollow may be accompanied by puffiness, fine lines, or a darker appearance caused by shadowing.

These lines are a cosmetic concern in many people rather than a sign of illness. A new, one-sided change, swelling, redness, pain, or a change in vision needs a different assessment because those features are not explained by a simple tear-trough hollow.

Start with an assessment by a qualified medical practitioner experienced in the anatomy around the eyes. They can distinguish a hollow from pigmentation, fluid-related puffiness, skin laxity, or a prominent fat pad. Treatment is chosen according to the main cause, the depth of the groove, skin quality, and your overall facial balance.

Tear-trough filler uses a carefully placed injectable material to soften the transition between the eyelid and cheek; it cannot correct every cause of under-eye darkness.

The under-eye area is delicate. Filler can cause temporary swelling, bruising, unevenness, or a bluish cast, and rare but serious problems can affect blood flow or vision. Do not choose a product or injector from an online offer alone; ask how complications are recognised and managed.

Arrange a medical review if the change is sudden, affects one side, or comes with persistent swelling, warmth, redness, tenderness, a lump, discharge, or skin changes.
