What should you know about day 1 small bed bug bites?

Bites may be small, itchy, red or swollen and can occur on exposed skin after sleep. Some people notice marks later because the skin reaction is delayed, while others have little visible response. Similar spots can come from fleas, mosquitoes, contact dermatitis, folliculitis or other causes, so a cluster is not proof of an infestation.

Scratching can break the skin and allow bacteria to enter. The number or size of bumps does not reliably show how serious the reaction is. Check bedding, mattress seams and nearby furniture for signs, but avoid applying household insecticide directly to skin.
