Dark yellow urine with foam

Concentrated urine can look darker and may appear more bubbly, especially when it hits the toilet water quickly. Cleaning products, dehydration, and the shape of the bowl can also create surface bubbles. Foam that clears quickly is less concerning than a persistent frothy layer seen repeatedly.

Ongoing foam can sometimes reflect protein in urine, particularly when accompanied by swelling around the eyes or ankles, high blood pressure, or reduced urine output. Dark urine with yellow eyes or skin, visible blood, or severe pain has other possible causes and should not be explained by foam alone.

Drink normally if you are able and observe the next few urinations without adding cleaning products to the bowl. Note whether foam persists, whether the colour lightens, and whether swelling or pain appears. If froth continues over repeated visits to the toilet, book a medical review; a urine sample can check for protein, blood, and infection.
