What should you know about dark yellow turbid urine?

Turbid urine looks cloudy rather than clear. Dehydration can make normal particles more visible, while mucus, crystals, blood cells, or white blood cells can also affect the appearance. Cloudiness with burning, urgency, frequent urination, pelvic discomfort, or a strong smell may occur with a urinary infection. After exercise or heat exposure, fluid loss can deepen the yellow colour. Brown urine, yellow eyes or skin, pale stools, or unusual tiredness should prompt consideration of a liver or bile problem. A visual change cannot show which explanation applies.

If you feel well and have no fluid restriction, drink water steadily and watch whether the urine clears as hydration improves. Do not use leftover antibiotics or delay testing by taking someone else’s medicine. Write down when the cloudiness started, whether it is present every time, and any pain, fever, discharge, new medicine, supplement, or recent exertion. Arrange a medical review if it remains turbid, returns often, or is accompanied by urinary symptoms.

Seek urgent care for confusion, fainting, severe weakness, inability to keep fluids down, or very little urine. Fever with back or side pain, severe abdominal pain, visible blood, or rapid worsening needs prompt assessment. Yellowing eyes or skin with dark urine also requires timely care. Seek earlier advice if pregnant or if kidney, heart, or liver disease affects your fluid plan.
