Dark Spots on the Forehead: What to Know

Melasma may appear as larger, fairly symmetrical brown patches across the forehead and other facial areas. Sun spots tend to be more individual and defined. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation may remain after acne, dermatitis, a scrape, or irritation from hair or skincare products.

Sweat, friction from hats or headwear, and frequent rubbing can aggravate sensitive skin. A patch with scale, marked itch, pain, bleeding, or a raised surface does not fit a simple colour change reliably and should be examined.

Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser, and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen on the forehead. Reapply as directed during outdoor exposure and consider a hat. Avoid picking spots and stop any product that burns or causes persistent redness.

If the colour remains, a clinician can identify the pattern before suggesting care. Options may include a skin brightening treatment, chemical peel, or picosecond laser treatment, but suitability depends on skin tone, cause, and whether the skin is currently irritated.

Arrange a review if one mark becomes darker, larger, irregular, crusted, painful, or prone to bleeding. Prompt assessment is sensible for a spot that does not heal or for a new rash with swelling, tenderness, or spreading redness.
