Dark brown urine without pain

Concentrated urine after sweating or drinking less can be painless. Bile pigments, medicines, supplements, blood, or muscle pigment can also darken urine. Look for thirst, dizziness, yellow eyes or skin, pale stools, itching, nausea, fever, muscle soreness, or reduced urine. No pain does not identify the cause, and repeated colour changes should not be dismissed.

Note when the colour began and any heat exposure, exercise, fluid loss, illness, medicines or supplements. If you can drink normally and have lost fluid, take regular drinks and check later samples. Do not stop prescribed medicine without advice. Contact a clinician if brown urine persists, returns, or has no clear explanation; urine and blood tests may clarify the cause.

Seek urgent care for very little urine, fainting, confusion, severe weakness, repeated vomiting, severe pain, or rapidly worsening yellow eyes or skin. Dark urine with muscle pain or weakness after exertion needs prompt assessment. Otherwise arrange a review when the change lasts or remains unexplained.
