What should you know about exosomes?

Exosomes, also called extracellular vesicles, are microscopic membrane-bound packages released by cells. They can contain proteins and other signalling molecules. In aesthetics, the word may describe a topical product used after a procedure or a product promoted for skin rejuvenation or hair concerns. The source, processing, storage, ingredients, sterility, and intended route of use matter; products marketed under the same name are not necessarily equivalent.

Ask the practitioner exactly what product is being offered, how it was made, whether it is intended for topical use or injection, and how it will be stored. Tell them about allergies, active eczema, infection, medicines, pregnancy, and previous reactions. Do not apply an unlabelled product to broken skin or inject a product outside an appropriately supervised medical setting. Follow aftercare instructions and pause unfamiliar skincare while the skin barrier settles.

Seek medical advice for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pain, pus, blistering, or a spreading rash after use. Get urgent help for facial swelling, wheezing, faintness, or trouble breathing. A persistent change in skin texture, colour, or hair shedding also deserves review, especially when the product’s ingredients or source are unclear.

Ask what benefit is realistically expected, what alternatives exist, and which side effects have been seen with that exact product. Confirm who will perform the procedure, how complications are handled, and whether written product and aftercare information is available.
