Cradle cap healing

As cradle cap settles, thick or greasy scale may become thinner and easier to wash away. The skin underneath should look less irritated, and the child should be less bothered by the scalp. Flaking can come and go, so one remaining patch does not necessarily mean the routine has failed. Bleeding, wet crusts, marked swelling, or worsening soreness are not typical signs of uncomplicated healing.

Use a gentle wash and soften scale before brushing lightly. Stop if the skin becomes sore or starts to bleed. Keep fingernails short if scratching is a problem, and avoid picking at attached crusts. Seek medical advice when the scalp is becoming more red, tender, swollen, or moist, or when scale spreads beyond the usual scalp area. Arrange a review for recurrent heavy crusting, significant hair breakage, or symptoms that do not improve with gentle care. Prompt attention is appropriate if the child seems unwell.
