What should you know about cosmelan chemical peel?

A clinician assesses the colour, distribution, sensitivity, and likely cause of pigmentation before choosing a peel plan. The treatment may involve an in-clinic application followed by a home product schedule. Ingredients can increase skin shedding and help reduce the appearance of excess pigment, but irritation can also make discoloration more noticeable in some people. This is why a diagnosis matters: melasma, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and other changes can need different approaches.

Peeling, tightness, dryness, redness, or stinging can occur during recovery. The visible response develops gradually as the outer skin renews. Cosmelan does not replace treatment for active acne, infection, or an unexplained changing mark.

Tell the clinician about eczema, recent sun exposure, cold sores, active rashes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, allergies, and products that have irritated you. Follow the prescribed application frequency rather than adding extra exfoliants, scrubs, or strong actives. Use gentle cleansing, a bland moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sun protection; hats and shade add practical protection. Do not pick peeling skin, wax the treated area, or restart irritating products until your clinician says your barrier has recovered.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for severe or worsening pain, marked swelling, blistering, pus, spreading warmth, fever, facial swelling, or an eye-area reaction. Seek urgent care for trouble breathing or swelling of the lips or tongue. A darkening patch, persistent rawness, or irritation that prevents normal washing also deserves review because treatment may need to be paused or adjusted.

Ask what type of pigmentation is being treated, whether your current skincare should be stopped, how the home phase is supervised, what level of peeling is expected, and what to do if pigment darkens. Ask when exercise, shaving, waxing, makeup, and sun exposure can safely resume.
