What should you know about corona vaccine?

Vaccination gives the immune system information about a virus without causing the full infection. Protection can change over time as the virus and guidance change, so the recommended product or timing may differ between people. Vaccination does not treat an infection that is already established. An mRNA vaccine uses genetic instructions that cells briefly read to make a harmless target protein, after which the instructions are broken down.

Tell the vaccination team about previous vaccine reactions, allergies, pregnancy, immune-system conditions and medicines. Ask which product is being offered and when another dose may be advised. A sore arm, tiredness, headache or mild fever can occur for a short time. Rest, drink fluids and follow the service’s aftercare advice. Do not attend while acutely unwell without checking the provider’s instructions.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, widespread hives, collapse, or severe dizziness soon after vaccination. Contact a clinician for symptoms that are severe, unexpected or not settling, and mention when vaccination occurred. A reaction after one dose does not automatically predict the same response to every vaccine, so obtain individual advice before another dose.
