What should you know about compact CO2 laser?

CO2 laser energy is absorbed by water in the skin. Depending on the settings, it can remove very thin layers, heat deeper tissue, or combine both effects to encourage remodelling. A compact device may be used on a small or carefully defined area rather than the whole face. It can be considered for selected scars, uneven texture, lines, or other concerns after an examination. The device name alone does not determine whether treatment is suitable.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, cold sores, active acne, eczema, keloid scarring, medicines, and products that irritate your skin. The plan may include antiviral medicine for people with a history of facial cold sores. After treatment, expect redness, heat, swelling, peeling, or crusting while the surface heals. Follow the prescribed cleansing and moisturising routine, protect the area from sunlight, and do not pull away flakes. Makeup and active skincare should wait until the skin barrier has recovered as advised.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, a worsening blistering reaction, or delayed healing. New pigment changes can follow inflammation, especially in darker skin tones, so report areas that become markedly lighter or darker. Sudden eye pain or vision changes after treatment near the eyes needs urgent medical attention.
