CO2 laser tubes explained

Inside a tube, an electrical discharge excites a gas mixture and produces infrared laser energy. Mirrors and other optical parts guide that energy to the handpiece, where software and settings control how it reaches the skin. The tube is therefore one part of a larger medical system, not the treatment by itself.

Tube design, output stability, cooling, calibration, handpiece condition, and the operator’s technique can all affect delivery. A replacement tube or a high-output specification does not automatically mean a procedure is appropriate for a particular person.

Ask the clinic which device is being used, whether it is maintained and calibrated, who will perform the procedure, and how the settings are selected for your skin and treatment area. You can also ask what protective eyewear, cooling, smoke evacuation, and emergency support are available.

After a procedure, seek advice for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, unusual blistering, or a change in vision. During treatment, report unexpected heat, smoke, eye discomfort, or a sudden change in sensation immediately so the procedure can be paused and assessed.

Ask what the tube contributes to the system, how the device is checked before use, which settings are planned, and what recovery signs are normal. Ask for the clinician’s experience with your treatment area and skin tone, plus clear instructions for contacting the clinic.
