What should you know about cluster headache red eye?

Cluster headache commonly presents with pain around one eye and same-sided autonomic symptoms, such as redness, watering, a smaller-looking eyelid opening, nasal blockage, or a runny nose. These signs reflect activation of nerves and blood vessels around the face during an attack. A red eye has many possible causes, including eye surface problems and pressure-related emergencies, so the pattern, pain level, vision, and pupil appearance matter.

Note which eye is affected, whether the pain is around or behind it, how long the episode lasts, and whether light or movement changes it.
