What should you know about cloudy yellow urine in men?

Low fluid intake can make urine yellow and strong-smelling, while crystals, mucus, or cells can make it cloudy. A urinary tract infection can present with cloudy urine and burning, urgency, frequent urination, or lower abdominal discomfort. In men, pain between the scrotum and anus, pelvic discomfort, difficulty starting the stream, or pain with ejaculation should also be described to a clinician because the prostate or nearby urinary structures may need assessment. A kidney infection presents with urinary symptoms plus fever, chills, side or back pain, or vomiting. The appearance itself cannot establish a diagnosis.

Drink fluids normally unless you have been advised to limit them, and observe whether the urine clears later. Avoid leftover antibiotics. Arrange a review if the change lasts, recurs, or comes with burning, urgency, weak flow, pelvic pain, discharge, or blood. A clinician may ask for a urine sample and, depending on symptoms, discuss sexual health or prostate-related causes confidentially.

Seek prompt care for fever, chills, side or back pain, vomiting, visible blood, severe pelvic pain, or inability to pass urine. Sudden severe testicular pain or swelling needs urgent assessment. Confusion, collapse, or severe illness should be treated as an emergency.

Ask whether you need urine testing, whether the prostate should be assessed, and which symptoms require same-day help. Mention recent sexual contact, discharge, medicines, supplements, allergies, and any previous urinary infection.
