Cloudy urine with white sediment in males

Sediment can be more noticeable when urine is concentrated or when salts settle after a sample stands. Mucus or material from the urethra may also appear as pale strands or flecks. Burning, urgency, frequent urination, pelvic discomfort, or an unusual smell makes a urinary infection more relevant; cloudy urine is a presentation of a urinary tract infection, though the appearance does not diagnose one. Discharge from the penis, testicular pain, or pain with ejaculation needs separate discussion because it can point to inflammation outside the bladder.

Use a fresh, clean-catch sample if a clinician asks you to provide urine, and mention whether the sediment was seen immediately or only after standing. Keep track of urinary frequency, stream changes, pain, fever, discharge, and blood. Drink your usual fluids unless you have been given fluid restrictions. Do not use someone else's antibiotics or delay evaluation if symptoms are progressing.

Seek urgent care for inability to pass urine, severe testicular or flank pain, fever with shaking chills, vomiting, confusion, or visible blood.
