What should you know about cloudy urine strong smell no pain?

A stronger smell often reflects concentrated urine, foods, supplements, or medicines. Cloudiness may come from minerals, mucus, or discharge mixing with the sample. A urinary tract infection can present with cloudy or strong-smelling urine even when burning is absent; other clues include urgency, frequency, pelvic pressure, or a change in the amount passed. A kidney infection is more concerning when fever, chills, nausea, or side or back pain appears. Smell by itself does not establish infection.

Drink fluids regularly if you have no fluid restriction, and observe whether the urine becomes clearer and the smell less noticeable. Consider recent foods, vitamins, supplements, and medicines when describing the change. Do not douche or use scented products to mask an odour, and do not take antibiotics without advice. If the change lasts, returns, or is joined by urinary symptoms, arrange a urine assessment.

Seek urgent assessment for fever, shaking chills, side or back pain, vomiting, confusion, or feeling suddenly very ill. Contact a clinician promptly if you are pregnant, have kidney problems, diabetes, a catheter, or impaired immunity. Persistent cloudy, strong-smelling urine merits review even when there is no pain.
