What should you know about cloudy urine female diabetes?

Cloudiness is not a diagnosis. Concentrated urine, vaginal discharge, crystals, mucus, or medicines and supplements can alter its appearance. Diabetes may lead to increased thirst and urination when glucose is not well controlled, which can contribute to fluid loss. Most people with a urinary tract infection notice symptoms such as burning, urgency, frequent urination, lower abdominal discomfort, or a change in smell, but symptoms can vary. A kidney infection may present with fever, chills, nausea, or pain in the back or side. The urine appearance cannot show whether an infection is present.

Keep taking diabetes medicines as prescribed and follow your usual glucose-monitoring plan. Drink fluids regularly unless your care team has advised a restriction. Record glucose readings, urinary symptoms, fever, and whether the cloudiness comes and goes. Arrange a medical review if cloudiness persists, recurs, or occurs with urinary symptoms; a urine test and diabetes review may be appropriate. Do not self-treat with antibiotics or change diabetes treatment without advice.

Seek urgent care for fever with side or back pain, vomiting, confusion, severe weakness, visible blood in urine, or difficulty keeping fluids down. Contact your diabetes clinician promptly if you are passing urine much more often than usual, are unusually thirsty, or feel unwell with high or changing glucose readings. Early assessment is especially sensible when symptoms are new or worsening.

Ask whether you need a urine test or a review of glucose control, and whether any current medicine or supplement could affect urine appearance. Mention pregnancy possibility, previous urinary infections, kidney conditions, fever, pain, discharge, and how long the cloudiness has been present.
