What should you know about cloudy bloody urine female?

Blood may be coming from the urinary tract, or it may mix with urine from menstrual or vaginal bleeding. A urinary tract infection can present with cloudy urine, burning, urgency, pelvic pain or an unpleasant smell. Stones may cause strong, wave-like pain in the side or groin. Fever, chills, nausea or back pain can occur when infection affects the kidneys. The appearance does not show which cause is responsible, so do not dismiss visible blood as simple dehydration.

Contact a clinician promptly, particularly if the blood is clearly mixed through the urine, keeps returning, or occurs outside a menstrual period. Note the colour, clots, pain location, urinary symptoms and whether bleeding could be vaginal. A clinician may examine you and request a urine sample; if menstruation is occurring, they may advise how to collect a cleaner sample. Avoid taking someone else’s antibiotics.

Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding or clots, inability to pass urine, severe side or abdominal pain, fever with back pain, repeated vomiting, dizziness or fainting. Pregnancy or possible pregnancy makes bleeding and pain more urgent to assess. Go to emergency care if you feel faint, confused or rapidly worse.

Ask whether the blood is likely urinary or vaginal, which tests are needed, and how to provide a sample during a period. Share pregnancy possibility, recent sexual activity, discharge, stone history, medicines and the first time you noticed the change.
