Clear eyes and itchy eye relief

Itching in both eyes with watering, sneezing, or a runny nose commonly accompanies allergic conjunctivitis or allergic rhinitis. Dust mites, animal dander, pollen, smoke, cosmetics, and dry air can irritate the eye surface. Clear tears do not identify one cause by themselves. A gritty feeling, sticky discharge, marked swelling, or symptoms in one eye may need a different assessment.

Do not rub your eyes, because rubbing can increase swelling and scratch the surface. Rinse the face after outdoor exposure, keep windows closed when airborne triggers are high, and wash bedding regularly if dust is a concern. A cool, clean compress over closed eyelids can soothe itching. Preservative-free lubricating drops may help dryness. A pharmacist or clinician can explain whether allergy medication is suitable, especially for children, pregnancy, contact-lens wear, or other medicines.

Get urgent assessment for severe eye pain, light sensitivity, a sudden change in vision, injury, chemical exposure, or a sensation that something is embedded. Contact-lens users should remove lenses and seek prompt advice if the eye is painful, very red, or vision is blurred. Arrange a review when symptoms keep returning, affect sleep, or do not improve with trigger avoidance and simple care.

Ask whether the pattern fits allergy, dryness, infection, or another eye problem; which drops are appropriate; whether contact lenses should be paused; and which symptoms should trigger an urgent review.
