What should you know about Cicaplast Baume B5 for nappy rash?

Nappy rash commonly reflects prolonged contact with moisture, stool, urine, friction or irritating products. The skin may look red and sore in areas covered by the nappy. A barrier balm can reduce contact between irritated skin and moisture, but it will not address every cause.

A bright red rash in the folds, small spots beyond the main rash, marked tenderness or a rash that keeps returning can suggest a yeast-related problem or another diagnosis. Nappy rash is not a reason to use leftover steroid or antifungal medicine without guidance.

Change nappies promptly, rinse or cleanse gently, and pat the skin dry without rubbing. Apply a thin protective layer at each change if tolerated, and allow short periods of air exposure when practical. Avoid fragranced wipes, harsh soaps and tight nappies.

If the rash is not settling, a clinician may recommend a different barrier routine or topical antifungal treatment after examining the skin. Do not put product on broken skin if it causes distress, and wash your hands before and after changes.

Contact a clinician promptly if the baby has fever, marked pain, blisters, pus, spreading redness, bleeding, open sores or seems unusually unwell. Arrange an appointment when the rash reaches the skin folds, recurs often, or fails to improve with careful nappy changes and gentle protection.
