Oily skin produces more sebum, so a rich balm can feel heavy or look shiny when spread across the whole face. It may still be useful on a dry patch, irritated area or peeling spot caused by over-cleansing or a prescribed treatment. Using less product and targeting the affected area can improve comfort.

Oily skin can appear with acne, hormonal acne or seborrheic dermatitis. These conditions may need different approaches. The presence of oily skin does not by itself identify any one condition, and a balm cannot clear blocked pores or control the underlying trigger.
