Chronic cholelithiasis

Short answer
Chronic cholelithiasis means gallstones remain present over time; treatment depends on symptoms, complications and whether the gallbladder needs removal.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What chronic cholelithiasis means
Gallstones are hardened deposits in the gallbladder. Some cause no symptoms, while others temporarily block the outlet and produce cramping or steady pain in the upper abdomen. Indigestion, nausea and vomiting can accompany an episode. A gallstone can also irritate the gallbladder or move into a bile duct.
A clinician may ask about the timing of pain, meals, fever, bowel changes and previous episodes. Examination, blood tests and ultrasound or other imaging can help clarify whether the stones are incidental or causing trouble. Chronic symptoms deserve review even when they settle between episodes.
Practical next steps
Book a GP Consultation if discomfort keeps returning, interferes with meals or is accompanied by nausea. Note the pain’s location and duration, foods that seem to trigger it, and any fever, vomiting or yellowing of the eyes. Eat regular portions and avoid known triggers while waiting for advice, but do not rely on dietary changes to treat a blocked duct.
If symptoms are troublesome or complications develop, your clinician may refer you to a surgeon to discuss gallbladder removal. Do not take leftover antibiotics or pain medicines that were not prescribed for you.
Warning signs
Get urgent care for intense or lasting abdominal pain, fever, repeated vomiting, jaundice, dark urine with pale stools, collapse or confusion. These signs can indicate infection, obstruction or pancreatitis and should not be watched at home.
Useful questions
Ask whether your stones are causing the symptoms, whether imaging is needed, and how you will know if an episode is becoming urgent. Discuss observation versus surgery, pain relief that is suitable for you, and what to do if symptoms return at night.

A stone can obstruct the drainage system and contribute to pancreatitis, which needs urgent assessment when severe pain or vomiting occurs.
