Chills in early twin pregnancy

A twin pregnancy can bring substantial tiredness, nausea, and changing temperature comfort, but chills do not confirm twins or show how a pregnancy is progressing. Feeling cold without fever may follow low food or fluid intake, exhaustion, or the room temperature. Check rather than guessing: a thermometer is more useful than touch alone.

Chills with fever may reflect infection. Influenza can cause aches and respiratory symptoms. Urinary tract infection may cause burning or frequent urination, while kidney infection may cause fever, nausea, and pain in the back or side. Pneumonia may cause cough or breathlessness. Tell a clinician about travel or mosquito exposure because malaria and dengue fever can be relevant in those settings.

Pause strenuous activity, rest, and take fluids in frequent sips. Check temperature more than once if the episode continues, and write down bleeding, cramps, vomiting, urinary symptoms, cough, and the time each began. Contact the maternity or obstetric team when chills recur or a fever appears. Do not start antibiotics or use a medicine, supplement, or concentrated herbal preparation without pregnancy-specific advice.

Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, confusion, difficulty breathing, inability to keep fluids down, severe weakness, or a rapidly worsening condition. Chills with serious infection can occur with sepsis and need immediate evaluation. With a twin pregnancy, tell the team clearly that you are pregnant with twins when you call, as well as your gestational stage and symptoms.

Ask whether your temperature and symptoms require same-day testing, including a urine check, and what treatment is suitable in a twin pregnancy. Mention your ultrasound findings, estimated gestation, travel, exposure to illness, allergies, and any medicine already taken.
