Charcoal pills for acid reflux

Acid reflux happens when stomach contents move upward into the oesophagus. Activated charcoal is designed to bind some substances in the gut; it does not remove the mechanical cause of reflux or consistently neutralise acid. It can darken stools, cause constipation or nausea, and reduce absorption of medicines taken nearby. Reflux may cause burning, sour fluid, cough, chest tightness, or disturbed sleep. A Hiatus Hernia, Obesity, or another condition can contribute, so persistent symptoms deserve a proper review.

Ask a pharmacist or clinician before using charcoal, particularly if you take regular medicines. Try smaller meals, remain upright after eating, identify foods that trigger symptoms, and avoid lying down soon after a meal. A clinician can recommend an appropriate Acid Reflux treatment and check whether symptoms fit reflux or another problem. Do not use charcoal to replace prescribed care.

Get urgent help for chest tightness with breathlessness, sweating, faintness, or pain spreading to the arm or jaw.
