What should you know about CDC ADHD?

Short answer
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, activity, impulse control, organisation, and daily functioning.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How ADHD can appear
A person with ADHD may lose track of tasks, forget instructions, interrupt, feel restless, or struggle to start and finish work. Difficulty concentrating, irritability, and feeling anxious can also occur, but these experiences have many possible causes.
Assessment looks for a persistent pattern that began during development, affects more than one setting, and interferes with life. A clinician may speak with the person and, where appropriate, family members, teachers, or other professionals. Sleep problems, mood conditions, learning differences, and physical health issues may need consideration too.
Helpful next steps
Write down examples from home, school, work, or relationships, including what helps and what makes tasks harder. Bring a list of medicines, sleep concerns, mood changes, and relevant childhood history to an appointment.
Support may include coaching, skills for planning and time management, environmental adjustments, talking therapy, and prescribed medicine. A mental health assessment can clarify the pattern and identify overlapping concerns. Agree on one or two practical changes, such as written instructions, reminders, or a quieter workspace, then review whether they help.
When to seek care
Seek urgent help if attention or impulsivity is accompanied by thoughts of self-harm, severe agitation, loss of contact with reality, or immediate danger. Arrange a routine assessment when difficulties repeatedly disrupt learning, work, sleep, driving, relationships, or self-care.

Questions people ask
Can adults have ADHD?
Yes. Some adults are assessed after years of difficulties with organisation, attention, impulsivity, or restlessness. Assessment considers development and current functioning.
Does difficulty concentrating mean someone has ADHD?
No. Concentration can be affected by sleep, stress, anxiety, mood, medicines, and health conditions, so the wider pattern matters.
