Causes of swollen lips and eyes

Swelling that appears quickly on both eyelids and the lips may be angioedema, particularly when hives, tingling, or a recent food, sting, product, or medicine is involved. Itchy, burning skin after makeup, skincare, hair products, or eye drops suggests contact irritation. Painful swelling with warmth, marked redness, discharge, or fever needs evaluation for infection. Puffiness that is greatest after waking can also relate to sleep position, salt, crying, or fluid retention. These clues guide assessment but do not prove a diagnosis.

Remove contact lenses and stop new eye or lip products until the cause is clearer. Rinse irritants from the skin with clean water, avoid rubbing, and use a cool wrapped compress.
