Carbuncle crystal: what the term may mean

Carbuncle usually refers to connected boils caused by infection around several hair follicles. Crystal-like, shiny, or hard wording may describe how a lesion looks or feels, but it does not identify its cause. An infected lump can be red, warm, painful, and filled with pus; other conditions can look similar without being a carbuncle. Avoid relying on a label from a photograph or informal description.

Keep the skin clean and leave any crust or covering in place rather than picking it. If fluid appears, use clean gauze and wash your hands after changing it.
