What should you know about carbon peel treatment?

A clinician spreads a thin carbon-based lotion over clean skin and allows it to settle into surface oil and pores. A Q-Switched Laser then targets the carbon, warming and breaking up the coated material so it can be removed. The process can also create controlled heat in the skin, which may make the complexion look smoother and more even. It is commonly discussed for oily skin, dullness, visible pores, and mild uneven texture; it does not replace treatment for acne, infection, or a deeper pigment disorder.

Temporary warmth, redness, dryness, or tightness can occur afterward. Results vary with skin sensitivity, the condition being treated, laser settings, and the clinician’s assessment.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, active rashes, cold sores, medicines, and products that irritate your skin. Arrive with clean skin and follow any instruction about pausing exfoliating acids or retinoids. Afterward, use a gentle cleanser, a bland moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sun protection. Avoid picking, scrubbing, very hot water, and irritating actives until the skin feels settled. Ask when makeup, exercise, shaving, or another session is appropriate for your skin.

Contact the treating clinic if redness becomes increasingly painful, swelling continues to worsen, blisters appear, or the skin develops spreading crusting or discharge. Seek urgent medical help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or sudden eye symptoms. A darker or lighter patch that persists should be assessed, particularly after laser treatment.
