How to Manage a Bartholin Cyst

The phrase “cara menghilangkan” means “how to get rid of” in Indonesian. A small, previously assessed cyst that is not painful may settle without a procedure, but a clinician should examine a new lump near the vaginal opening to confirm what it is.

Bartholin glands sit near the vaginal opening and release fluid through small ducts. When a duct becomes blocked, fluid can collect and form a lump, usually on one side. A cyst may cause little discomfort; infection can turn it into an abscess that is tender, hot, swollen and painful during sitting, walking or sex. Pus, fever or feeling unwell points toward infection rather than a quiet cyst.

For a cyst already confirmed by a clinician, sitting in comfortably warm water or applying a warm compress several times a day may encourage natural drainage and soothe irritation. Keep the area clean and dry, wear loose clothing, and use a suitable non-prescription pain reliever only if you can take it safely. Never pierce, cut or squeeze the lump yourself because this can worsen pain and introduce infection.

An abscess may need drainage, and antibiotics may be used when infection is present. A clinician can place a small catheter to keep the opening draining. If the cyst repeatedly returns, marsupialisation creates a lasting drainage opening by stitching the cyst edges to the surrounding skin. The choice depends on examination findings, symptoms, previous episodes and your health.

Arrange urgent medical assessment if the lump becomes rapidly larger or more painful, feels hot, releases pus, or is accompanied by fever or a general feeling of illness. Severe pain, spreading redness, difficulty passing urine or heavy bleeding after a procedure also warrants urgent help. Any new vulval lump deserves an examination, particularly when the appearance is unusual, it persists, or the diagnosis has never been confirmed.

Ask whether the lump is a cyst or abscess, whether infection testing is appropriate, and which pain relief is safe with your medicines and health conditions. If drainage is offered, ask how the catheter or wound should be cared for, which activities to avoid while healing, what discharge is expected, and what signs mean you should return sooner.
