Strips are not suitable for every injury, including many bites, punctures, dirty wounds, or cuts with exposed deeper tissue.

The wound should be checked for bleeding, sensation, movement, and debris. A cut over a joint, on the face, or near the eye may need specific assessment because movement and appearance can affect closure choices.

Wash your hands, control bleeding with gentle pressure, and rinse visible dirt with clean running water. Pat the surrounding skin dry, bring the edges together without forcing them, and place strips across the cut rather than along it. Keep the area clean and follow the dressing advice you were given.

Do not use household glue or pull strips off early. Replace a wet, dirty, or loose dressing according to clinical advice. Check whether tetanus vaccination is up to date, particularly after a dirty or outdoor injury.

Seek urgent care if bleeding does not settle with firm pressure, the wound is deep or widely open, numbness or loss of movement develops, or an object remains embedded. Arrange prompt assessment for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, worsening pain, or red streaks from the wound.
