Bumps on my arms that look like pimples

Rough, small, closely grouped bumps on the outer upper arms can fit keratosis pilaris. Red or tender bumps centred on hairs may fit folliculitis, especially after sweating, friction, or hair removal. Acne can also affect the arms, although acne commonly includes blackheads, whiteheads, or inflamed spots. Itching, a spreading rash, or bumps around the mouth or eyes may point toward a different diagnosis.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser. Avoid squeezing, harsh scrubs, tight sleeves, and picking at individual spots. Apply a plain moisturiser after bathing; a clinician may suggest a product containing urea, lactic acid, or salicylic acid for rough follicular bumps. Pause shaving or waxing over irritated skin, and seek assessment if the bumps persist despite gentle care.

Seek prompt care for swelling of the lips or face, breathing difficulty, or a rapidly developing widespread rash. A dermatologist can examine the follicle pattern and distinguish acne, folliculitis, keratosis pilaris, or another rash.
