Brilinta Rash: What to Know

A drug eruption can appear after starting, changing, or sometimes continuing a medicine. Its appearance may overlap with contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, heat rash, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, or intertrigo. Note when the rash began, where it started, whether it is spreading, and whether you have itch, pain, fever, mouth sores, or facial swelling. This information helps a clinician judge the next step.

Call the prescriber or pharmacist and provide a full list of medicines, supplements, and recent products. Do not scratch, apply a new steroid or antibiotic cream, or take another person’s medicine without advice. Keep the packaging available and photograph the rash if it changes. Because Brilinta affects clotting, medication changes should be coordinated with the clinician who prescribed it.

Seek emergency care for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, widespread hives, blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, fever, or sores in the mouth or eyes. A rapidly spreading rash also needs urgent assessment. Even a milder new rash should be reported promptly so a possible medicine reaction is not missed.
