Prognosis describes the expected course of an illness, but it cannot predict one person's future precisely. When lung cancer has reached the brain, the deposits remain lung cancer cells. Their number, size, position, associated swelling, and effect on daily function help shape the clinical picture.

The team also reviews cancer elsewhere in the body, the lung cancer subtype, molecular test results, previous therapies, and how well the person can manage everyday activities. These details can change treatment choices and make a general estimate less useful than an explanation based on current scans and health.

Ask whether the aim is to shrink cancer, slow its growth, relieve symptoms, preserve independence, or combine these goals. Find out whether tumour profiling could identify a medicine matched to a molecular feature and whether surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted treatment, immunotherapy, or supportive care fits the current situation.

Tell the team what matters most, such as clear thinking, mobility, time at home, work, or attending a family event. A written summary of medicines, recent symptoms, and practical priorities helps the consultation focus on decisions that match personal goals.

Treat a first seizure, collapse, sudden weakness or numbness on one side, abrupt speech difficulty, severe confusion, or a sudden intense headache as emergencies and contact local emergency services immediately.
