Can Botox make you look older?

Botox relaxes selected muscles; it does not restore skin thickness, replace volume, or reverse sun damage. If movement changes in one area, nearby muscles may appear more active, or the brow and eyelids may look different. A face can also seem older when a person compares a fresh, smooth area with untreated lines or notices volume loss that Botox was never designed to address. Swelling, bruising, or an uneven early result can temporarily alter the impression. Crow's Feet and other wrinkles may have separate causes and should be assessed on their own.

Contact the injector for a review rather than arranging another treatment immediately. Describe when the change began, which expression feels different, and whether you have drooping, pain, or vision symptoms. Ask the clinician to examine muscle balance, brow position, eyelids, skin quality, and volume. Do not try to correct the appearance with unregulated products or extra injections. Dermal Fillers may address volume concerns in selected cases, but they have different uses and risks. Keep a record of the product and injection areas for future consultations.

Seek prompt clinical advice for marked asymmetry, eyelid or brow drooping, persistent pain, increasing redness or swelling, or vision changes. Get urgent help for difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking, or for weakness that spreads beyond the injected area. Mild bruising can occur, but severe or worsening symptoms need assessment.

Ask which muscles were treated, whether the change is expected to settle, how your brow and eyelids are positioned, and whether untreated volume loss or skin texture contributes to the concern. Ask when review is appropriate and which symptoms need urgent care.
