What should you know about boots cracked heel balm?

Short answer
A cracked-heel balm can soften thick dry skin and support healing, but deep, painful, bleeding, or infected fissures need medical advice.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why heels crack
Heel fissures form when dry, thickened skin loses flexibility and splits under pressure. Open shoes, prolonged standing, friction, hot water, and a dry environment can make the split worse. Scaling between the toes, burning, or itching may point toward athlete’s foot rather than simple dryness.
A balm usually contains an emollient that reduces water loss and makes the outer skin more flexible. Some products also loosen thick scale. It should not be treated as a substitute for checking an ongoing or unusual problem.
Using heel balm well
Wash gently, pat the feet dry, and apply balm to the heel while the skin is still slightly damp. Covering the area with cotton socks can reduce friction and help the product stay in place. Do not apply a fragranced product to raw skin if it stings, and avoid cutting hard skin with blades.
Wear supportive footwear that does not rub the heel. Keep footwear dry and avoid sharing towels if there is scaling that could be fungal. A clinician or pharmacist can help select an appropriate emollient and explain whether another treatment is needed.
When to seek care
Arrange medical advice if a crack is deep, repeatedly returns, or does not improve with regular moisturising. Seek prompt care for spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, or increasing pain. If you have diabetes, poor circulation, reduced sensation, or a weakened immune system, have foot fissures assessed early and avoid self-treatment of open wounds.
Questions for your doctor
Does this look like dry skin, athlete’s foot, eczema, or another condition? Which balm or emollient suits my skin, and how should I protect an open fissure? Do my medicines or health conditions change foot-care advice?
