What should you know about boob stretch marks?

Stretch marks, or striae, may develop during puberty, pregnancy, weight change, breast growth or changes in muscle beneath the skin. Early marks can look pink, red, purple or darker than nearby skin; older marks often become lighter and slightly indented. They are a type of scar-like change in the dermis, not a sign that the breast itself is diseased. They can occur on any skin tone and may itch while they are forming.

Keep the skin comfortable with a gentle moisturiser and avoid harsh scrubbing. No cream can reliably erase established marks, but a dermatologist can assess their age, colour and texture before discussing procedures. Options may include microneedling, fractional laser treatment, RF microneedling or carboxytherapy. Treatment usually aims to soften contrast or texture, and several appointments may be considered; results vary with skin type and the maturity of the marks.

Seek an examination if marks appear suddenly without an obvious growth or weight change, cover large areas quickly, or occur with easy bruising, muscle weakness or other new symptoms. A new breast lump, persistent pain, nipple change or discharge should be assessed separately rather than attributed to stretch marks.
