Body temperature in dengue fever

Fever is a common presentation of dengue fever and may come with headache, muscle aches, joint pain or chills. A falling temperature does not always mean recovery; warning symptoms can become clearer as fever settles. Temperature alone cannot confirm dengue or show severity.

Use a reliable thermometer and record readings, time, fluids and new symptoms. Rest and drink frequent fluids unless advised otherwise. Ask a clinician which fever medicine is suitable; avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless directed because dengue can increase bleeding risk.

Arrange prompt assessment for suspected dengue. Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, nose or gum bleeding, easy bruising, unusual sleepiness, confusion, breathing difficulty or inability to drink, even if the temperature is falling.
