Short answer

Body laser hair removal uses concentrated light to heat selected hair follicles and reduce future hair growth over treatment sessions.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Target
The light heats pigment in selected hair follicles.
Before treatment
Discuss tanning, medicines, pigmentation, scarring, and active inflammation.

How the treatment works

The device targets pigment in the hair so heat reaches the follicle while the surrounding skin is protected as carefully as possible. Results vary with hair colour, thickness, skin tone, body area, hormone changes, and the device selected. Alexandrite Laser, Diode Laser, and Nd:YAG Laser suit different skin and hair characteristics. Laser treatment can also help people troubled by Ingrown Hairs or shaving-related bumps, but it does not diagnose the reason for excess hair. Hirsutism or Hidradenitis Suppurativa may need separate medical care.

Preparing and caring for skin

Tell the practitioner about recent tanning, medicines, pigment changes, scarring, and active skin inflammation. Avoid tanning and follow the clinic's instructions about shaving, waxing, and skincare before treatment. During a session, protective eyewear is used and brief warmth or stinging may occur. Afterward, keep the area cool, protect it from sunlight, and avoid picking or harsh products until irritation settles. Do not treat over an active infection or open wound without medical guidance.

When to seek care

Contact the provider if redness, swelling, blistering, crusting, marked pain, or colour change is worsening rather than settling. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or a rapidly spreading reaction. A medical review is sensible when new coarse hair appears quickly, hair growth is accompanied by other hormonal changes, or repeated bumps suggest an underlying condition.

Questions to ask

Which laser is suitable for my skin tone and hair? What preparation is needed for this body area? How will you protect pigmented or sensitive skin, and which reactions should prompt a call?

Questions people ask

Is body laser hair removal suitable for everyone?

Suitability depends on skin tone, hair characteristics, medicines, recent tanning, and the condition of the skin being treated.

Can laser hair removal help ingrown hairs?

Reducing hair growth may lessen shaving-related ingrown hairs, but persistent bumps should be assessed so other causes are not missed.
