Body aches with post-nasal drip: what to know

Post-nasal drip is mucus moving from the nose or sinuses towards the throat. A cold, influenza, or COVID-19 may cause this drainage together with aches, tiredness, sore throat, cough, or congestion. Allergies can produce clear drainage, sneezing, and itchy eyes but do not usually explain widespread aches unless another illness is present. Sinus inflammation may cause facial pressure or thick mucus. The combination is a symptom pattern, not a diagnosis.

Drink fluids, rest, and try saline nasal spray or a saline rinse prepared with safe water. Elevating your head during sleep may reduce throat drainage. Warm drinks can soothe irritation; avoid smoke and other airway irritants. A pharmacist can advise on an antihistamine or nasal treatment when allergies are likely, and on pain relief that fits your health history. Follow product directions and avoid using several products with the same ingredient.

Seek urgent care for difficulty breathing, swelling around the eyes, severe headache with a stiff neck, confusion, or difficulty swallowing fluids. Arrange review for facial pain, worsening symptoms after initial improvement, persistent thick drainage, or aches that are severe or continue after the nasal symptoms settle. Consider testing and local medical advice if you have been exposed to a respiratory infection.
