Body aches and headache: what should you know?

Short answer
Body aches with headache often accompany an infection, but dehydration, heat, medicines, and other conditions can also contribute.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Reading the symptom pattern
Viral illnesses such as influenza and COVID-19 can cause muscle soreness alongside headache, fever, tiredness, or respiratory symptoms. Dengue fever and malaria are also important possibilities after relevant travel or mosquito exposure, particularly when fever, chills, rash, or unusual weakness is present. Brucellosis may be considered with prolonged fever and exposure to unpasteurised dairy products or animals. Fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism can produce more persistent aches, although their broader symptom patterns differ. Headache that follows heat exposure, sweating, vomiting, or poor fluid intake may reflect dehydration. The timing and combination matter more than either symptom alone.
Practical steps
Rest somewhere cool and quiet, sip water or an oral rehydration drink, and eat small amounts if you can. Limit alcohol and strenuous exercise while symptoms are active. A cool cloth may ease discomfort. Use only medicines suitable for you and follow package directions; ask a pharmacist before taking a new product if you have chronic disease, are pregnant, or already use combination cold remedies. Note the onset, temperature, location and severity of the headache, recent travel, and any new symptoms.
Warning signs
Get emergency help for a sudden severe headache, weakness on one side, trouble speaking, seizure, fainting, confusion, stiff neck, or difficulty breathing. Seek prompt care for a headache with repeated vomiting, a spreading rash, severe eye pain, marked drowsiness, or fever after travel. Arrange a medical review when symptoms persist, recur, or prevent drinking and ordinary activities.
