Blurry vision and headache: possible explanations

Eye strain, an uncorrected prescription, migraine, dehydration, or a viral illness can produce headache alongside blurred vision. Nasal congestion and facial pressure from Allergic Rhinitis or Chronic Sinusitis may also make the head and eyes feel uncomfortable. Fever, poor fluid intake, heat exposure, or anxiety can add dizziness and visual difficulty.

These symptoms do not identify one diagnosis by themselves. The headache's onset, location, severity, associated fever or congestion, and whether vision is blurred in one or both eyes all matter. A clinician may check your eyes, blood pressure, neurological function, and hydration.

Rest your eyes, reduce screen glare, drink fluids if you can, and avoid driving until your vision is clear. Keep a note of triggers, duration, temperature, medicines, and other symptoms. Do not take more pain medicine than the label or your clinician advises. Arrange a medical review if the problem keeps returning or does not settle.

Seek emergency help for sudden vision loss, a thunderclap or unusually severe headache, weakness, numbness, difficulty speaking, confusion, fainting, a painful red eye, or symptoms after an injury. Seek prompt care for high fever with a stiff neck, repeated vomiting, or worsening symptoms after heat exposure.

Ask whether you need an eye examination, a neurological check, or tests for dehydration or infection. Tell the clinician whether the blur affects one eye or both, how quickly it began, and what makes it better or worse.
