Bloom hair transplant: what to know

During a transplant, a clinician moves hair follicles from a fuller donor region to selected thinning or bald areas. The method may remove individual follicular units or a strip of skin, depending on the plan. A natural-looking result depends on hairline design, donor density, follicle characteristics, and whether existing hair loss is still progressing.

Pattern loss is one possible indication, while traction alopecia may require a different assessment. Sudden shedding, inflamed scalp, bald patches, or scarring should be investigated before cosmetic planning. A transplant does not treat every cause of hair loss or create unlimited density.

Ask for a diagnosis, scalp examination, donor-area assessment, and a clear plan for the hairline and coverage. Share medicines, medical conditions, smoking or nicotine use, and any history of poor scarring. Discuss aftercare, washing, activity limits, expected shedding, and how existing hair will be protected. Alternatives may include medical treatment, PRP for hair loss, or scalp micropigmentation, depending on the diagnosis and your goals.

Contact the treating team for worsening pain, increasing swelling, pus, fever, spreading redness, or bleeding that does not settle with the advised pressure. Seek urgent care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or feeling faint. New bald patches, severe scalp inflammation, or rapid shedding also warrant assessment rather than assuming the transplant is the cause.
