Short answer

A blocked nose with an itchy throat and ears often comes from allergy-related inflammation or a common cold, but the pattern and accompanying symptoms guide the next step.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Common patterns
Allergy irritation and viral colds can both cause nasal blockage and throat symptoms.
Ear care
Avoid inserting cotton buds or other objects into an itchy ear.
Urgent warning
Breathing trouble or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat needs urgent help.

What this combination can mean

Allergies can inflame the lining of the nose and cause congestion, throat irritation and an itchy feeling around or inside the ears. Sneezing, a runny nose, watery eyes, or symptoms that return around dust, pets or pollen support this pattern. Allergic rhinitis and house dust mite allergy are examples.

A common cold can also block the nose and irritate the throat. Cough, tiredness or a mild temperature may occur, and symptoms often change over several days. Sinusitis may be considered when facial pressure, thick nasal mucus or reduced smell accompanies congestion. Ongoing nasal blockage, especially with disrupted sleep or loud snoring, deserves assessment rather than repeated self-treatment.

What you can do now

Drink fluids, rest, and avoid smoke, strong fragrances and other triggers that make the nose or throat sting. Saline nasal spray or a saline rinse can loosen mucus; use sterile, distilled or previously boiled and cooled water for a rinse, and clean the device as directed. A pharmacist can explain whether an antihistamine or another allergy medication fits your symptoms and other medicines.

Do not put cotton buds or objects into an itchy ear. If congestion keeps returning, note where you were, what you were exposed to, and whether symptoms include sneezing or watery eyes. That record can help a clinician distinguish allergy from infection and choose treatment.

When to seek medical care

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, faintness, or a rapidly spreading itchy rash. Arrange prompt medical review for severe facial pain, swelling around an eye, marked ear pain, ear discharge, or symptoms that are worsening rather than settling. A blocked nose that persists, repeatedly disturbs sleep, or affects hearing should also be assessed.

Questions for your doctor

Ask: Could this be an allergy, a cold, or sinus inflammation? Which symptoms would make infection more likely? Is a nasal spray or allergy medication suitable with my health conditions and current medicines? Should my ears, hearing or breathing during sleep be checked?

Questions people ask

Does an itchy throat and ears always mean an allergy?

No. Allergy irritation is one possibility, but a cold, nasal inflammation or another cause can produce overlapping symptoms. The timing, triggers and associated signs matter.

Can I treat the blocked nose at home?

Rest, fluids and saline nasal spray or rinse may help. Ask a pharmacist before using medication, particularly if you have other conditions or take regular medicines.

When should persistent blockage be checked?

Arrange an assessment when blockage continues, repeatedly affects sleep, changes hearing, or comes with significant facial or ear pain.
