Blackheads Before and After Treatment

Lighting, camera distance, makeup, skin hydration, and image editing can change how pores appear. Useful comparison images keep these conditions similar and show whether new plugs, inflammation, and marks are actually decreasing.

A blackhead is an open comedone filled with oil and dead skin. Treatment can clear existing plugs and reduce new ones, but pores remain normal skin structures and may still be visible. A freshly extracted pore can look empty straight away without addressing the process that caused it to clog.

Some acne routines initially cause dryness, peeling, or irritation. That reaction is not proof that a product is working, and severe irritation can disrupt treatment. Progress should include tolerable skin comfort as well as changes in the number and prominence of comedones.

Take occasional photographs in the same place, without filters, using similar lighting and camera distance. Note the products used, areas treated, irritation, and whether spots are blackheads or inflamed pimples. Daily close-up inspection can make ordinary fluctuations seem more dramatic than they are.

Keep the routine simple enough to identify what helps or irritates. Avoid squeezing before a photograph or changing several active products together. A dermatologist may recommend topical retinoids for comedonal acne, professional extraction for selected plugs, or a different plan when inflamed acne accompanies the blackheads. Mention pregnancy or pregnancy plans before retinoid treatment.

Get medical advice if treatment produces persistent burning, swelling, blistering, raw skin, worsening pain, or scars. An assessment is also worthwhile when consistent care brings no meaningful change, the diagnosis is uncertain, or deep tender lesions develop. Stop a suspected irritant and seek urgent help for facial swelling or breathing difficulty.
