As the carbon is removed, it can carry surface debris and oil with it. The controlled heat may also produce temporary redness or warmth.

This treatment is often chosen to improve the look of oiliness, dull texture, or uneven tone. Results vary with the skin concern, laser settings, and aftercare. It is not the same as a chemical peel because its main action comes from laser energy rather than an exfoliating acid.

Before treatment, tell the clinician about active rashes, cold sores, recent tanning, medicines that increase light sensitivity, and products that irritate your skin. Arrive with clean skin if the clinic requests it. During recovery, use a gentle cleanser, plain moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sunscreen, and avoid picking or scrubbing any flaky areas.

Pause strong exfoliants or retinoids only according to the treating clinician's instructions. Heat, vigorous exercise, and fragranced products can aggravate freshly treated skin, so ask when you can safely resume them.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if redness or swelling keeps worsening, or if you develop blistering, crusting, marked pain, pus, or a spreading rash. New patches that become much lighter or darker should also be assessed. Seek urgent care for facial swelling, trouble breathing, or a rapidly developing widespread reaction.
