The surgeon places the graft in a prepared bone tunnel, then fits the screw beside it. The screw presses the graft against the tunnel wall to limit movement during early healing. Bioabsorbable screws are made from materials intended to be gradually processed by the body rather than remaining as metal hardware.

Breakdown and replacement by tissue are gradual processes. A scan can sometimes show changes around the screw site during this period, and those findings need interpretation alongside symptoms, examination, and the operation details.

Follow the surgeon's instructions for bracing, weight bearing, wound care, and physiotherapy. Progress exercises according to graft healing and movement control rather than pain alone. Keep follow-up appointments so the team can assess swelling, range of motion, strength, and joint stability before advancing activity.

Tell clinicians that the implant is bioabsorbable if further imaging or surgery is planned. Do not test the repair with twisting, jumping, or an early return to sport unless your rehabilitation team has cleared those movements.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, warmth, drainage, fever, worsening swelling, pain that is escalating instead of settling, or a new feeling that the joint gives way. Sudden calf swelling or pain also needs urgent assessment.

Seek emergency care for chest pain, difficulty breathing, a cold or pale foot, or new loss of feeling or movement. These signs require assessment regardless of the type of screw used.
