Beurer hair-removal devices: IPL use, limits and precautions

IPL sends broad-spectrum light toward pigment in the hair. It aims to reduce regrowth over repeated use, but response depends on contrast between hair and skin, the treatment area and correct technique. Read the label and manual for the exact model rather than assuming all Beurer devices operate alike.

A laser produces a more specific wavelength, while IPL uses a range of light wavelengths. Clinic systems can be selected and adjusted by trained practitioners for an individual's skin tone, hair and medical history. A home device uses preset limits and may be unsuitable for certain complexions or hair colours.

Light-based removal targets hair pigment; it does not treat the hormonal cause of excess growth. New coarse facial or body hair accompanied by irregular periods, scalp thinning or voice change warrants medical assessment for an underlying cause such as hirsutism.

Confirm that your skin tone, natural hair colour and intended body area are allowed in the manual. Perform the instructed patch test, shave rather than pull the hair from its root, and use the device on clean, dry, intact skin. Protect the area from tanning and do not repeatedly flash the same spot unless the instructions explicitly permit it.

Do not use over tattoos, dark moles, wounds, active rashes or infected follicles. Check with a clinician if you take a medicine that increases light sensitivity, have a photosensitive condition, scar abnormally or develop pigment changes easily. Eye protection and facial-use rules must follow the specific device instructions.

Stop treatment for intense or lasting pain, blistering, crusting, marked swelling, spreading redness or a new dark or pale patch. Cool the skin gently without applying ice directly, and do not re-treat it. Promptly seek care if there is an eye exposure with visual symptoms, extensive blistering, fever or signs of infection such as increasing warmth and pus.

Ask whether light treatment suits your complexion and hair colour, whether a medicine or skin condition changes the risk, and if the area should first be examined. For clinic treatment, ask which technology will be used, how settings are chosen for your skin tone, and how burns and pigment changes are prevented.
