Before and after cherry angioma removal

The eventual appearance depends on the angioma's size and location, the removal method, skin healing and aftercare. Removal may leave a lighter or darker mark, a small textural change or a scar, so a perfectly invisible result should not be assumed.

A cherry angioma is a small growth made up of blood vessels. Depending on the chosen method, the area may look darker immediately after treatment, then form a dry surface or crust. Once that lifts naturally, fresh skin may appear pink or different in colour from the surrounding skin.

A photograph taken immediately after removal is not the final result. Healing continues after the surface closes, and pigment can take longer to blend. Picking the crust or repeatedly rubbing the spot can delay repair and make a noticeable mark more likely.

Follow the treating clinician's wound instructions because care differs after vascular laser treatment and electrosurgery. Keep the site clean, use any recommended ointment, and protect it from friction. Do not peel a crust, apply acids or use an abrasive scrub while the surface is healing.

Once the skin has closed, protect exposed sites from sunlight to reduce unwanted colour contrast. Before treatment, tell the clinician about medicines that affect bleeding, a tendency to form raised scars, implanted electrical devices, active infection and previous reactions to local anaesthetic.

Contact the treating clinic if redness is expanding rather than settling, pain is increasing, or the site becomes hot, markedly swollen or produces pus. Bleeding that does not stop with firm, continuous pressure also needs prompt advice.

Have any presumed cherry angioma examined before cosmetic removal if it has an unusual shape or colour, keeps bleeding, changes quickly or the diagnosis is uncertain. Removal should not replace assessment of a lesion that looks atypical.
