A brand or listing name does not reveal the wavelength, maintenance history, cooling method or person delivering treatment. Those details matter because laser settings must match the treatment area, hair characteristics, skin tone and recent sun exposure.

The device delivers light that is absorbed by pigment in the hair, heating the follicle to reduce later growth. Hair grows in cycles, so treatment is normally planned as a course rather than a single visit. Regrowth can still occur, and maintenance may be discussed.

Alexandrite, diode and Nd:YAG are different laser technologies. Their suitability is not determined by the technology name alone; an experienced practitioner selects the device and settings after examining skin and hair. Very light, grey or white hairs contain little pigment for the laser to target.

At consultation, disclose medicines, pregnancy, recent tanning, active rashes, a tendency to scar, previous reactions and any condition that makes skin sensitive to light. Ask for a patch test and written aftercare. Avoid waxing or plucking beforehand because the target hair needs to remain in the follicle; follow the provider's instructions on shaving.

Protect the area from sun and do not attend with sunburn, open skin or active infection. After treatment, use gentle products, avoid picking and follow instructions about heat, exercise and bathing. Temporary warmth and redness can occur, but worsening pain or skin damage is not routine aftercare.

Contact the treating service promptly if pain is increasing or if blistering, crusting, marked swelling, weeping skin or a spreading rash develops. Keep the area clean, do not break blisters, and obtain medical assessment if the service cannot review you or symptoms continue to worsen.

Urgent care is needed for eye pain or visual change after facial treatment, or for signs of a severe allergic reaction such as breathing difficulty and swelling of the lips or tongue. Persistent light or dark patches, scarring or recurrent inflamed bumps should be assessed by a dermatologist.

Ask for the device manufacturer and model, the laser technology used, who performs treatment, and how settings are selected for your skin. Clarify eye protection, patch testing, cooling, expected endpoints, aftercare and the process for managing burns or pigment change. If excess hair appeared suddenly or accompanies other symptoms, ask whether a medical evaluation for hirsutism is appropriate.
